The Reindeer People - first Megan Lindholm book I've tried.
Ah! A good choice. Do you have the sequel too? Because it's basically one book split in half.

As for my vacation, I think I have settled on The Count of Monte Cristo and GRRM's The Armageddon Rag. And maybe a third book. The Count of Monte Cristo is pretty thick, but last year I suddenly found myself without a book during my last few days, not to mention the way back home. Better to take too much than too little with me.

Thanks for sharing joost, though I've had my copy on preorder/order at a store in Townsville for AGES now and I'm not sure what the problem is....apparently I'm not the only one still waiting Dodgy !

Oh, have just found it in hardback on The Book Depository Clapping ! For newboys, there's a link to it on the bottom of the forum and main pages, with free shipping from the UK pretty much worldwide.

Yep I got it from the library and I made sure they have the other one! Good to hear you liked it - I haven't read much yet.
Greetings from France! The Reindeer People and its sequel were the first Lindholm books I ever read. While I didn't like it as much as the Hobb novels, I thought it was very good.

I'm currently reading the mammoth book The Count of Montecristo. I'm not very far yet, but it's quite good so far. Before that, I read Blindsight, an SF novel by Peter Watts. It deals with many of the same themes as Neuropath, that disturbing favorite of mine, which is why I sought it out. It was interesting but a little disapointing, and I'm not sure if I would have made it through if hadn't had to spend six hours in a car with the book. It happens to be available for free from the author's website.
Finished Warriors today. There were only a few stories I didn't care for (The king of Norway, Clean slate, And ministers of grace, The girls from avenger, Ninieslando), but the rest was worth my money. Clear favourites are The triumph, The pit, Out of the dark (although I didn't like the end), Ancient ways and The scroll. The George RR Martin story is not bad, but it's in my eyes the worst of the three hedge knight stories so far.Let's hope the next one (I read he plans 9 Dunk/Egg stories) is a bit better.

Next on the list: Nana 21. A Japanese manga about two girls, both called Nana (seven in Japanese) who are totally different but end up living together. Somewhat soap-y, but I really like several of the characters (especially 'punk-Nana').

G'day Albertosaurus Rex! What's a bit of scenery when you have a book to read, right Big Grin ?!
Little known fact: the edition of The Count of Monte Cristo I am currently reading is the recently released first full Dutch translation. Translations before that were abridged, sometimes cut down to only 300 pages. I don't know how many of you have ever read it, but the edition I have is 1177 pages long. So how anyone managed to cut down the book to 300 pages and still retain a comprehensible story is anyone's guess.
I haven't read it , but there was a movie version on not so long back with Guy Pearce.
Just thought Farseer would want to know that factoid... Proud
What have you seen in France so far Albertosaurus?
(don't say the pages of a book!)
Not all that much, actually. We've mostly been taking treks through the forest and such. Seen a lot of trees, hills and a cave.
