The spammers are generally bots. They don't really read anything. Getting Mervi to modify the registration settings should solve much of the problem.
Thanks for all of the spammer reports! Flowers
Oh, the irony of a spammer commenting on a spam thread. At least this one's sophisticated enough to have an avatar!
fairly simple bot still...
Checking in after a few days away at a school event with lots of driving to get there and back...

...at least I got a laugh out of this one - thanks AR! Big Grin
Thanks for the report for the spam post in the Finnish thread, joost. I also deleted a similar one from in there yesterday...lucky for me that it was English as well!

The difference in these two posts are that they were made by two identities that were 'unregistered', hence I couldn't then ban the users after deleting their posts. How is this possible? Would they be registering, posting the spam and then de-registering so as to prevent themselves/their IP address from being permanently banned?
You don't have to be registered to be able to answer in the Finnish subforum (just tested: Log out, open a thread in Finnish, click on 'post reply' and you can answer. Log out, open a thread anywhere else, click on 'post reply' and you need to log in).
Mervi needs to fix those permissions...
Just lost my post! Down

The short version:

@ 'thul: Thanks, looks like September is going to be my month for sending PMs to Mervi! I'll let her know but she may choose to keep it as is, as I can see that life would be far easier for a fan fluent in Finnish, but not so fluent in English, to not have to register...or so it would seem to me after I had to use Google translate, and my knowledge of registering on thePlenty, to try and understand the registration process to join Blood Memories, the wonderful site for Italian Hobb fans, some time ago.

@ joost: That makes sense to me, and I checked it out as well. Thank you so much for that, joost. I am so very glad to be a member of such a warm and helpful coterie here on thePlenty! Grouphug
loosing posts is a pain... These beings did the same not long ago by accidentally refreshing a page where it was being written...
