Little known fact: the edition of The Count of Monte Cristo I am currently reading is the recently released first full Dutch translation. Translations before that were abridged, sometimes cut down to only 300 pages. I don't know how many of you have ever read it, but the edition I have is 1177 pages long. So how anyone managed to cut down the book to 300 pages and still retain a comprehensible story is anyone's guess.
