Minor but important changes for theplenty.net
26 Oct, 2017 filed under: Site updates
Two sections of theplenty.net that used to have their own subdomains have new urls and the whole site is now using more secure connections.
The classic fanlisting that started it all has moved from fans.theplenty.net/rh to https://theplenty.net/rhfans/
Please update your links—and if you aren’t listed there yet, why not experience some pre-social media nostalgia and join?
The forums have also had a change of address: forums.theplenty.net now redirects you to https://theplenty.net/forums/
Again, please update any links or bookmarks you may have. For a bit more detail about these changes please see this forum post. And as always, do contact me if you have issues with any part of the site!
And if you’re not the linking kind or don’t remember whether the colon is before or after and how many slashes there are, don’t worry! Just type theplenty.net in the address bar and your browser will take care of the rest. :)

thePlenty.net 10 years giweaway!
2 Sep, 2014 filed under: Site updates, Internet, contest
This September, the domain name thePlenty.net has been online for 10 years! The site is actually about 18 months older than that—in the beginning this place was just a small fanlisting with a news sidebar, hosted by a kind stranger. But beginning in the autumn of 2004 with the move to my own space and the domain name, I started to add more content. With the addition of the wiki in 2006 and the forums in 2008 the Plenty has grown quite a bit. This August we had an all time record number of visitors. To celebrate this first decade, I’m running a giveaway!
Prize: a set of US paperback copies of Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven with the Jackie Morris covers, both signed by Robin Hobb.
Open: to all residents of planet Tellus with an email address.
Closes : September 13, 2014 23:00 EEST (convert to your place in time). NOW CLOSED.
Winner: will be chosen by a randomiser.
Rules: leave a comment on this entry with a valid email address. If you win, you need to be able to provide a physical address where I can send the books. If for some reason you can’t use the comment form, you can email your entry to memories (a) the plenty dot net—please put “theplentynet giveaway” or something similar as the subject.

I guess it’s that time of the year. ;) I’ve just upgraded the forum script, and you can now easily browse them on mobile devices as well. While I’m still working on the wiki update and trying to fix all the errors and bugs that have accumulated, why don’t you head over to the official site robinhobb.com to have a look at the shiny new layout there!

Robin Hobb Reddit chat Oct 19th
18 Oct, 2011 filed under: Site updates, Robin Hobb, Internet
First of all, my sincerest apologies for the lack of updates during the past few months—the reason is a mixture of real life events and computer problems. I hope to do some serious news blogging this week to catch up! For now, the most current news to take note of:
Robin Hobb will be joining /r/fantasy on Reddit on Wednesday, October 19th at 8:00PM (Pacific) for an “I am Robin Hobb—Ask Me Anything” session. Check out how that converts to your local time and join the chat!
ETA: You can now go here to read the Q&A session.

Win 3 Robin Hobb books and a dragon figurine
4 Apr, 2011 filed under: Site updates, Robin Hobb, Megan Lindholm
I’m really excited to announce the very first contest here at theplenty.net! We’re teaming up with HarperCollins in anticipation of the US publication of The Inheritance and Other Stories which is an anthology of ten classic as well as brand new tales from Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm.
One winner gets this amazing prize package courtesy of HarperCollins publishers:
- a US paperback edition of Dragon Keeper
- a US paperback edition of Dragon Haven
- a galley copy of the upcoming The Inheritance and Other Stories
- a beautiful dragon figurine
And here’s what you need to do to win:
1) Reply in the comments with your name and email address and the answer to this question: what is the connection between the character Ronica from the Liveship Traders trilogy and the short story “Homecoming” that is included in the Inheritance collection? (hint: you can find the answer on this site!)
2) Spread the word about this contest. You can post to forums, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Livejournal communities etc, just make sure that the place where you post is not a locked profile or community.
- Remember to include a link to this contest in your posting.
- Add proof (= links) of your postings to your comment here.
You gain 1 point for every documented posting you make and 1 point for the right answer to the above question. The contestant with most points wins. If there is a tie, the winner’s name will be drawn. The contest ends on Sunday the 10th of April at 11PM GMT+2 (convert to your local time).
//edited to add: new comments go through an approval process to weed out spam. If you don’t see your entry immediately, please be patient.
