A horror anthology edited by Joe R. Lansdale, Patrick R. McDonough and Keith Lansdale titled New Demons has been announced and one of the writers in the lineup is none other than Robin Hobb! Whether it will actually be a Megan Lindholm story remains to be seen. Very little is yet know about this anthology except that it is a kickstarter project and that you can sign up to receive announcements.

Subterranean Press' Ship of Magic preorders open very soon

- Posted in Robin Hobb news by

Subterranean Press have announced details on their long-awaited edition of Ship of Magic. The book will be printed in two colors throughout, with a full-colour wraparound dust jacket, duotone endsheets, and duotone chapter head illustrations by John Howe.

Cover of Robin Hobb's Ship of Magic, Subterranean Press 2024. It is a painting by John Howe of a sailing ship out at sea. The ship has a female figurehead, the sails have a bird with opened wings depicted on them and the ship is surrounded by sea serpents.

All of the elements for The Mad Ship and Ship of Destiny are also already complete. They are expecting to publish all three volumes in 2024 but they are sold separately, not as a set.

Ship of Magic is naturally the first to be published in the following formats:

  • Limited: 600 signed numbered copies, bound in cloth: $195

  • Lettered: 26 signed bradel bound copies, housed in a custom traycase: $1500

Preorders were opened earlier for folks who already own copies of Subpress' Farseer edition so they have first chance to buy matching copies.

General preorders for Ship of Magic open on Monday the 4th of December 2023 at noon ET. (That is UTC-5 for time zone converting purposes.) Links to the book's product page will go live at that time on the Subterranean Press website.

New Liveship Traders special edition forthcoming

- Posted in Robin Hobb news by

In 2016, Subterranean Press published what was back then the only complete US hardback edition of the Farseer trilogy. Because it was limited in numbers and had gorgeous new dust jacket art by John Howe, it quickly became a coveted collector's item and to this day remains one of the priciest and most challenging to obtain editions among Robin Hobb's works.

In the recent years, there have been rumours about a continuation in the form of the Liveship Traders trilogy. This now seems to be very close to happening, as a brand new painting by John Howe for Ship of Magic was posted at a closed fb group. It was then reposted on Petrik Leo's youtube channel. (Timestamp 9:09). Since the cat seems to have been out of the bag for a good while already without being taken down, I'm sharing the art below. There are no confirmed publication details yet, but I'll be sure to post them as soon as they're publicised.

The announced time seems to be either 8:25 or 9:30 in the morning - might depend on your location!

If you are in France or Germany, you can access the whole documentary series via ARTE's streaming service (currently 2 out of the 4 episodes are available).

More details about the upcoming comic adaptation of the Farseer trilogy by Dark Horse comics are here!

The issues seem to be set to appear monthly: #1 on the 14th of December, #2 on the 11th of January and #3 in February.
Each issue is full colour, and has 32 pages. The announced 6 issues will cover the first book of the Farseer trilogy with the title Assassin's Apprentice, with more to follow later. It's expected that there might be a volume published at some point that collects all the issues but this is so far unconfirmed.

Here is the cover art for #2, the art is by Anna Steinbauer. Cover art for the second issue of the Assassin's Apprentice comic featuring young Fitz with a dog. Art by Anna Steinbauer.

The first two issues are available for preorder now through your local comics shop. The product is not restricted so there should be no issues with international orders. If you'd like to have signed copy, head over to Signed Page - you can preorder copies of the first issue with a signature from Robin or if you're willing to wait until February, a bundle of signed copies of the first three issues.

The wiki has a dedicated page for this adaptation where you can find all the available details as more issues are released.
