'''Trehaug''' is the chief settlement of the [[Rain Wild Traders]], located on the shores of the [[Rain Wild River]], a number of days travel up from the river mouth. It is located approximately three or four days travel down from [[Cassarick]].
Unlike other cities in the [[Realm of the Elderlings]], Trehaug is not built on the ground. It is built up in the trees, consisting of platforms around the trunks of trees. To get from one level of the city to another, one has to either ascend steep stairs circling the trunks or pay for the use of a ballasted elevator-like cage, The various trees are linked by foot bridges, trolley spans and similar constructions. The further up a trunk a structure is, the more lightweight its construction. Wealth and fortune is typically seen by how close to a trunk someone lives.

The poorest sections typically shake even in the lighter quakes common to the Rain Wilds.

The city of Trehaug is built above the ruins of the [[Elderling]] city of [[Fregong]], which is mostly buried in the swampy ground underneath the trees.

A ship made of [[wizardwood]] by the [[Rain Wild Traders]], and sold to families of the [[Bingtown Traders]].

The price for a liveship was substantial, with families often committing further generations to fulfill the repayments. If a family was unable to pay, then a member of the liveship family was surrendered to the [[Rain Wild Traders]]. This begats the phrase, "In Blood or Gold, the debt is owed."

The figurehead of a liveship "quickened", or came to life, after three succeeding generations of the owning family had died on its decks. The memories of those who had died coupled with the ship's will and skill to sail flawlessly make the liveships matchless against other ships. A liveship always has to have a member of her family aboard, to keep the family traits showing instead of those of a dragon.

The characters [[Paragon]], [[Vivacia]] and [[Ophelia]] are prominent liveships in the Liveship Trader series.
