Molly is a girl from Buckkeep town. Fitz first meets her when he and Nosy venture out of Buckkeep on their own and meet a group of children. She is simply called Nosebleed at that time. She's outspoken and quick-witted, showing no fear of the bigger boys in the group. She worked in Beebalm Chandlery owned by her alcoholic father who beat her regularly (hence the name). Her mother had died soon after giving birth to her, but left her tablets describing various uses of herbs in candles. She is two years older than Fitz, dark haired, with a red hue in them.

Molly expected to inherit the chandlery after her father died, but he was in debt and the chandlery went to the debtors. She went to her cousins in Siltbay to work for the summer, but in the autumn Red Ship Raiders attacked and her cousin's family was left with nothing. Then Molly came to Buckkeep to search for Fitz, whom she thinks only as Newboy, a helper of the keep scribe. Fedwren guided her to Patience, who took her as her maid.

She became Fitz's lover, even if they both were counselled against that. When she got pregnant, she left Buckkeep, expecting Fitz to come for them.

Fitz sent Burrich to help her and his daughter. When Fitz was presumed dead, Molly and Burrich got married and Burrich raised Fitz's daughter as his own. They got six children together.

Names
* Molly Nosebleed - the name given her by the children of Buckkeep Town
* Molly Nosegay - the name by which she was referred to in writings left by her mother
* Molly Chandler - the name she offers Fitz when they first meet as teenagers, presumably a reference to her livelihood
* Molly Red-Skirts - a name by which Fitz refers to her, almost exclusively in dreams
* Molly Chandler-Burrichswyve - as named by Queen Kettricken

Children
* Nettle - fathered by Fitz
* Chivalry - fathered by Burrich
* Nimble, also 'Nim' & Swift 'Witted' - twins fathered by Burrich
* Steady - fathered by Burrich
* Just - fathered by Burrich
* Hearth - fathered by Burrich
The youngest son is little more than 6 years old when Burrich leaves for the Out Islands.

* Very young maid to Kettricken when she came to Buckkeep as Verity's bride. Rosemary was trained to be spy for Regal. Her father had died before she was born, and her mother lady Celeffa of Firwood had little more than that title to call her own. If she hadn't been in Regal's favour, she would not have come to Buckkeep with her daughter at all.

Rosemary had a habit of drowsing near Kettricken when she was talking "privately" with Fitz. Apparently she repeated the conversations to Regal and even helped arrange an accident that made Kettricken fall in the stairs though it is unclear whether she realized what she was doing. Kettricken suspects that it was framed for her as a prank or game.

When Regal returned to Buckkeep after the Red Ship War, Rosemary was with him. Her mother had died and she was neglected because everyone saw that she was no longer in the Queen's favour. She was only 8 years old at that time and a half-trained assassin. Chade talked about it with Kettricken, who was ashamed that she had let the situation become what it was, and went to talk with the girl. Rosemary was frightened of her, but when given the option of either to be fostered to Lady Patience or to be Kettricken's page again, she chose to stay. She is also Chade's apprentice.

* Also the protagonist in the story Cat's Meat. They are very clearly NOT the same Rosemary, so after the book has been published and we start writing articles about that story, we need to make a disambiguation page here. --Mervi 00:50, 21 March 2011 (EET)

Patience is a Lady known for her eccentricity, the daughter of Lady Averia and Lord Oakdell, and was escalated to fame by marrying the current King-in-Waiting Chivalry.

Childhood
Patience was known for her strangeness even as a child, refuses to learn more womanly crafts in favour of the often more obscure subjects she wanted to know. She also had a small romance with Burrich, although it did not last, Burrich thinking her too good for him and his loyalty to Chivalry that kept him from leaving his duties. She had a dog, named Featherduster.

When her parents visited Buckkeep, queen Constance noticed that Patience didn't enjoy the life in court and took her to the Queen's garden, where they could be together without being disturbed and take care of the plants.

Marriage
The marriage of Chivalry and Patience was scorned because of the match gained nothing for the Farseer's - Patience's family was amiable with the throne and already had good trade links with them.

Later on, the marriage was dissaproved of because of the couple's inabilty to conceive a child, which was later proved to be caused by Patience's infertility when Fitz was born.

Weither out of jealousy or anger of her husbands betrayal, Patience persuaded her husband to step down from his position as King-In-Waiting and retire to Withywoods. The two lived here in relative peace and quiet, with Chivalry learning the ways of the land, until his death from what was publically called a riding accident.

Buckkeep
After Chivalry's death, Patience moved to Buckkeep Castle along with her maid and closest friend Lacey, to oversee the upbringing of Fitz and to protect him. He studied various subjects with her, from musical instruments to the knowledge of plants, through he learnt more from what she said and did in passing then the inconsistent lessons she taught.

Her horse was called Silk and it was trained by Burrich. She also had a terrier, Snowflake, which was the mother of Smithy. Patience gave the puppy to Fitz.

Patience was not well received at court, for her outlandish behaviour and her knack for talking bluntly about subjects that would otherwise be skirted around. She made few friends amongst the ladies while King Shrewd was on the throne, for her interests were more directed towards interesting plant life and botany then dresses and courting, however this changed when Kettricken came to court and rejuvenated the Queen's Garden.

She was one of the few that were left behind at Buckkeep castle when Regal moved to Tradeford, but turned the situation around to her favour, and where Regal ignored the needs of the Six Duchies, Patience gave all she could so that the Red Ship Raiders might be repelled, knowing that if Buckkeep fell, so would the Six Duchies.

When rumours came about that Verity was still alive, Patience was one of the few that supported and encouraged it, declaring Regal's false claim to the throne.

Tradeford
After the Red Ship War and Queen Kettricken ascended her throne, Patience was given Tradeford to rule over and turned it from the centre of Regal's bloody rule to a place of peace and prosperity. The most noticable change she made was the transformation of the King's Circle into a beautiful garden.

Withywoods
At the end of Fool's Fate, Lacey passed away, leaving Patience alone. She decided then to move back to Withywood's (which she had given to Molly under the assumption that Chivalry would have wanted Burrich or his family to have it) with Fitz and his family, where she currently resides.
After the Red Ship War and Queen Kettricken ascended her throne, Patience was given Tradeford to rule over and turned it from the centre of Regal's bloody rule to a place of peace and prosperity. His father was rumoured to be one of Desire's personal servants. Favoured his half-brother Regal to the throne, was known to be "a Queen's man".

Galen was forced into undying loyalty to
Chivalry in an accident; Chivalry intended only to make Galen like him, and never could undo the Skill command. That same command later made Galen blame Fitz for Chivalry's stepping down from the line of succession and eventual death. Galen bullied and nearly beat Fitz to death, giving him a Skill order to Die. Smithy, Burrich and the Fool saved Fitz; in response Burrich challenged and defeated him before the Witness Stones, forcing him to admit that Fitz was a Farseer and that Galen would teach him.

However, the beating from Burrich apparently warred with Chivalry's Skill command, and instead of teaching Fitz, Galen allowed him to physically participate in lessons but Fitz never felt him Skilling to him again.

As Skill-master, Galen was an ascetic, harsh teacher. He bonded Regal's coterie practically by force, and instilled in them the same kind of Skill command to be loyal to Regal.

Galen hated those with the Wit. He probably beat one Witted woman to death. She was bonded with a hawk and Galen was seen with talon marks. When the cousin of the girl accused him of the killing, he took it to the Witness Stones. Galen won and thus the case was closed.

He was bad with animals, dogs didn't like him and he overcontrolled horses. Dressed well. Had a chain with three gems in it, given him by Desire.

He died when he tried to drain Verity dry of Skill, to get Regal on throne. Fitz gave Verity his own strength and Verity drained Galen instead. His death was thought to be a heart failure and he was well-thought by those who didn't know the truth.

I wonder if we should split the gallery soon, separate pages for ML and RH books perhaps? It might become very heavy to load otherwise. We could also perhaps use series' titles as headers, making navigating the page easier?

Can someone from the UK and the US look at the Tawny Man covers, please? I'm not sure if all of them are real, actual covers, or whether some of them are just variations that have been up on sites before the books came out. This happened with Renegade's Magic, for example... the picture that was at Robin's official site was slightly different from the actual one that came out. I can vouch for the US covers. I know they are real. ChriSchaeffer 02:51, 11 September 2007 (EEST)
:: That's the only one I was questioning. I know the red cover IS the paperback, but I'm not sure about the other one. ==what is still missing==
Right now I know the Hobb gallery is missing AT LEAST the following covers, please see if you can help!
* Czech
- Farseers and Tawny Men at least have been published (by "Radomir Suchanek"?)
- http://www.fantasya.cz/zbozi/vyprava-k-bohum might be a good starting point
* Poland
- the older set of Liveship traders is missing entirely. At least some of it was published by "Prószyński i S-ka"
- so is the last part of Fool's Fate (cover probably looks very similar to first part)
* Taiwan/China
- I'm not entirely sure which one we have here labelled "China". I know the publishers are "Fantasy Foundation Publication" for Taiwan and "Shantou University Press" for China, can someone figure this out?
- China (?) FF part 1 is missing
* Hebrew
- at least the Farseer and the LST have been published (by "Astrolog"?)
* Greece
- I have on my computer covers for Farseer, LST and the first Tawny Man books. They seem to be by "Anubis" but Hobb's site mentions "Compupress" so I need to do more research. No FF published yet?
* Turkey
- Farseer Trilogy by "Ithaku" at least
* Italy
- Farseer by "Fanucci"
* Spain
- at least Farseers and LST are popping up everywhere so these should be easy to add. At least one publisher is "La Factoria de Ideas"
* Russia
- I know there are more covers in the "pink series" but I haven't been able to find decent pictures yet
- the other part of Harpy's Flight/Windsingers is missing, and I don't know which one it is :D
* France
- I have the French omnibus editions on my computer, I just haven't figured out which way to post them yet. I also have some magazine covers thanks to SerpentBlanc that I'll add later
- anything else that is "missing" from the French editions has not been published yet
* Germany
- It appears that two Ship of Magic covers are missing?
- otherwise I *think* we have it pretty much covered except for some omnibus editions I'll add later

ARCs
- I found some images of older ARCs, will add them later

Feel free to add more images or leave a note here if you've found one but don't know how to add it. Any missing/incorrect information? -- Mervi 21:06, 16 November 2007 (EET)

Problem with some thumbnails not loading
As you might have noticed, some of the thumbnails in the gallery aren't showing although the coding is correct and the files exist if you click on the broken images. This is a known bug in the script, and I'm working on getting around it. -- Mervi 00:21, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Split it again?
The gallery is really becoming too long and slow to load (and hard to edit, even if you choose to edit a sub-section and not the whole page). Maybe we should split the Elderlings stories for their own page for now, and leave Soldier Son, anthologies and other writings here? I think that when we get more of the translations listed we will eventually have to split it AGAIN by trilogies. Any other suggestions? -- Mervi 23:56, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Here's a few ideas of things you can start working with.

* list of books, editions and translations: I just received the material from Willem's old site. Does someone (Sini? ;)) want to start working with it? Mervi 21:36, 29 May 2006 (EEST)

* Liveship Traders books need indexing. Even a list of every character/place/important object would be really helpful, you don't have to add them to the database one by one yourself.

* List of most wanted pages: these are articles that don't yet exist but other articles are trying to link to. Maybe you could help by adding content to some of them so they are created? Just click on the red links and start writing.

* And there's also a list of all existing pages if you don't want to create new pages. Simply choose one of these and start adding information.

* Fitz needs some attention. It's the second most popular page, the most linked to page and the one with most categories, and we only have the draft I made in the beginning. I realize it's going to be one leeeeenghty article, but even if some of you could devote a little time to write a section or two for starters, that would be great. :)

* The friendly folks over at the French site Rivages Maudits have agreed to exchange information with us. I don't know if many of you know French, but at least the bits about the French editions are quite understandable - even to me! :D Feel free to dig in and use anything we don't yet have. :)
* <strike>Characters and places from Fool's Errand</strike> have been listed, but the articles of course still need more material
* <strike>the Golden Fool is in the process of being indexed,</strike> and Fool's Fate is next in line after that
* <strike>the script has been updated once again, please let me know if you encounter problems!</strike>
* fighting spammers. Last night, I upgraded the script to the latest version, hoping that there might have been a security fix included, but obviously there wasn't since the spamming continues. Mediawiki doesn't allow even the SysOp to delete members, only block them. I could do that manually at the database, but that is strongly advised against, as it might generate errors in the script. I'm currently looking into hacks and other tricks to make spamming more difficult - the sad news is that this will further increase the steps everyone has to take in order to edit articles. I'd love to keep this site easy to access and edit for everyone, but as things are, I must require registering etc.
* I've installed an extension that asks you to perform a simple math task (even I can do these, they're so easy ;D) whenever you're trying to add external links to an article. It also prompts new users to do the same when registering. I hope this will help, but please let me know if you have any problems using it!
* The MediaWiki script has been upgraded to the latest version - please let me know of any possible problems, I did see some minor errors during the installation. I'm also working on a skin that would "merge" the wiki with the rest of the site, making navigating back and forth easier, but completing that might take awhile.
* Oookay. First of all, my apologies that I still haven't updated the newest skin. I'll try to find time to do it soon. I did upgrade the script during the server move, and changed the license as we discussed. (Can't even remember where that happened, though.) I have some files saved for the cover galleries, I'll upload them after I've finished the skin. Also, it seems that some spam bots have taken interest on this wiki again, so I might have to disable anonymous editing (again) if it continues. -- Mervi 17:29, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
* Anonymous editing has been disabled again to prevent spamming. Sorry. :/ --Mervi 15:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
* Okay. The main site navigation should now work, although some pixels aren't quite in the right places in some browsers. As always, let me know if something doesn't work. I've also re-installed a new version of confirm edit. This should ask you to perform a simple math task whenever you try to add an external link and when a new user registers. It shouldn't (at this point) bug you when making normal edits. If it does, I'll try to fix it. Would you mind terribly if I put up a basic template for the Elderlings? that way we have something to work with, at least, even if it gets edited beyond recognition. **** As I'm sure some of you have noticed I've taken the liberty to split and reformat the gallery/galleries somewhat. Since the wiki has been really quiet lately I thought it's better to "act and revise if necessary" than to just wait for comments that might never appear. ;) So, I've a) split the original gallery into 3 parts: ML, RH and RotE. I suspect the last will need to be further split by the trilogies at some point b) altered the gallery format to show 5 books in a row, this shortens the pages even a bit (6 would have looked better but creates a horizontal scrollbar in smaller screens) If anyone knows a way to make the gallery fluid (well, we'd need to replace html tables with css for that I guess) let me know! -- Mervi 21:50, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
References
On the site Trader Bay. An unofficial Robin Hobb page by Adam Rosser. (with (incomplete) Character List and Timeline), a reference system is used for the Timeline. For example: "I.1" for Book I chapter 1. Maybe we can use a similar system to refer to the books of Robin Hobb. For example: "FT I 1." for The Farseer trilogy Book I chapter 1. Evil berry 22:55, 16 May 2006 (EEST)
: Yes, we could do references by book and chapter. Another option is to build a timeline (or probably several) with a tool like this. As I've tried to keep the articles free from references to the books, I'd prefer a timeline system, but I'm always willing to hear other opinions. Timelines might be more difficult build, I think we'd need to figure out some kind of "x years after Fitz was born" or "so-and-so's reign" system. Referencing to books on the other hand makes reading the article more messy - in my opinion. Mervi 02:41, 17 May 2006 (EEST)
:: I've created a timeline (not with EasyTimeline, because it doesn't seem to work on this wiki) on my Userpage. It's only a rough sketch, but it gives an impression of how a timeline could be. Evil berry 20:53, 19 May 2006 (EEST)
::: It doesn't work because I haven't installed it yet. :) The one you've started looks like a good listing, but it doesn't show things like the fact that most of the stuff listed towards the end are within Shrewd's reign etc. I'll see if I can install EasyTime tomorrow or later this week so you can experiment with it if you want to. :) Mervi 22:03, 21 May 2006 (EEST)
:::: Ouch. I took a closer look at the extension and it isn't as easy to install as I thought it would be. I'm going to have to postpone even trying to do that though, because I want to first update the script to the latest version. Sorry for the delay, I'll get there eventually, I promise! Mervi 18:35, 29 May 2006 (EEST)

I've started to wonder whether we should have a reference system after all. I didn't want one in the beginning, because my experience with book-ish wikis is that they are quite unneeded and make the article pages look messy. Minor characters would be easy to handle, because it would probably mean a very short note like "introduced in AA (chapter) 3, mentioned again in GF 15" but how should we handle references for characters that appear in 6 to 9 books? I feel that the time and energy would be better directed to just adding more things to the wiki in general. Of course this wouldn't be such a problem with new articles in the future as we could make those reference notes at the time of adding the article. Because I'm going to start expanding this wiki to cover other Hobb/Lindholm works as well soon, this would be a good time to decide whether we need/want references or not. --Mervi 02:16, 21 January 2008 (EET)
: Giving references to every bit of info about main characters would really be a really big job. I personally don't feel a need for it, but perhaps those who aren't as familiar with Hobb's work would like it... Tough choice. But I'm voting no, our time is better spent in doing the articles themselves. As long as we have the templates so there is reference to the right universe & books. Sini 10:41, 21 January 2008 (EET)
:: Perhaps we should make categories for books too, so that the minor characters would be in the category of a certain book / story or a second template placing them into a certain book / story?Sini 10:47, 21 January 2008 (EET)

Templates
For a long time I have planned to "open" this wiki to other Hobb stories besides the RotE ones. I figured that the best way the script allows us to do this, is to use little boxes that are really templates to mark all the articles depending on which fictional universe they belong. I have made some drafts for those and added the RotE one to the Fitz article for example - please let me know what you think. The idea is that the template can be altered at any point without having to go through hundreds of pages making the same change (of course the template has to be added to those pages first though! :D) So it doesn't matter if we've used the template already to mark articles and then want to change something in it. Anyway, it would be good to hear everyone's thoughts about this. -- Mervi 03:24, 19 January 2008 (EET)
* I think templates would be easier to notice on top of the page. Like the ones you've already done. Sini 13:42, 20 January 2008 (EET)
** I think I actually placed them all over the place when I tested them. It shouldn't be too hard to fix though once we reach some kind of a consensus about this. I do agree that they are more easy to spot when they're on top, especially if the article is lengthy. But I fear that they will look a bit odd on top of those pages that only have one or two lines, ie the minor characters that are barely mentioned in the books etc. --Mervi 02:07, 21 January 2008 (EET)
*** But to avoid people getting spoiled, it would be a good for the template be on top. Sini 23:04, 21 January 2008 (EET)
Licensing
Also, I picked us a license, you can see it here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/
This is something I've meant to do for a long time. If anyone feels it should be different, feel free to suggest changes! My main concern is to keep this all non-profit, and I would like to allow copying, because it makes collaborations with other sites easier. I chose "No Derivative Works" because I don't see the point of someone copying everything and then adding stuff to it elsewhere - although I don't know how likely that scenario is. What do you all think? Should the derivative works be allowed?
--Mervi 02:34, 19 February 2008 (EET)
*I'm really starting to think we should allow derivative works since I've already agreed to let the Rivages Maudits people use our material (and we can use theirs) so it would be kind of pointless to keep making exceptions to the rule, right? If noone disagrees or has any comments, I'm going to alter the license next time I upgrade the script. -- Mervi 16:09, 13 March 2008 (EET)
- so is the last part of Fool's Fate (cover probably looks very similar to first part)
* Taiwan/China
- I'm not entirely sure which one we have here labelled "China". I know the publishers are "Fantasy Foundation Publication" for Taiwan and "Shantou University Press" for China, can someone figure this out?
- China (?) FF part 1 is missing
* Hebrew
- at least the Farseer and the LST have been published (by "Astrolog"?)
* Greece
- I have on my computer covers for Farseer, LST and the first Tawny Man books. They seem to be by "Anubis" but Hobb's site mentions "Compupress" so I need to do more research. No FF published yet?
* Turkey
- Farseer Trilogy by "Ithaku" at least
* Italy
- Farseer by "Fanucci"
* Spain
- at least Farseers and LST are popping up everywhere so these should be easy to add. At least one publisher is "La Factoria de Ideas"
* Russia
- I know there are more covers in the "pink series" but I haven't been able to find decent pictures yet
- the other part of Harpy's Flight/Windsingers is missing, and I don't know which one it is :D
* France
- I have the French omnibus editions on my computer, I just haven't figured out which way to post them yet. I also have some magazine covers thanks to SerpentBlanc that I'll add later
- anything else that is "missing" from the French editions has not been published yet
* Germany
- It appears that two Ship of Magic covers are missing?
- otherwise I *think* we have it pretty much covered except for some omnibus editions I'll add later

ARCs
- I found some images of older ARCs, will add them later
Split it again?
The gallery is really becoming too long and slow to load (and hard to edit, even if you choose to edit a sub-section and not the whole page). Maybe we should split the Elderlings stories for their own page for now, and leave Soldier Son, anthologies and other writings here? I think that when we get more of the translations listed we will eventually have to split it AGAIN by trilogies. "It was about a boy who made friends with one of the stone lions outside his library, and heard the long tale of how the lion came to be cracked in the head. Which was why he felt free to talk to the boy while his brother lion remained silent. And what happens when the city decides to tear down the old library and build a new one. The intact lion will be sold off, but the cracked one will be junked.

How do you save a cracked lion?"
