Redbird was the son of [[Felicity]] and [[Copper Songsmith]]. He was prematurely born and always remained small and had a weak vision. He had reddish gold hair and hazel eyes. He was sunny natured but cautious. He was clever with letters and numbers and, apprenticed to his father, became a minstrel and a truthsinger. He grew up with Prince [[Charger]] and they stayed close friends all through their lives. As ''Redbird the Motley Minstrel'', he dressed in red and black and white. Redbird witnessed the end of Charger's life and tried to sing the true account of what had happened at King [[Canny]]'s coronation but was killed before he could finish.
