* fighting spammers. Last night, I upgraded the script to the latest version, hoping that there might have been a security fix included, but obviously there wasn't since the spamming continues. Mediawiki doesn't allow even the SysOp to delete members, only block them. I could do that manually at the database, but that is strongly advised against, as it might generate errors in the script. I'm currently looking into hacks and other tricks to make spamming more difficult - the sad news is that this will further increase the steps everyone has to take in order to edit articles. I'd love to keep this site easy to access and edit for everyone, but as things are, I must require registering etc.
* I've installed an extension that asks you to perform a simple math task (even I can do these, they're so easy ;D) whenever you're trying to add external links to an article. It also prompts new users to do the same when registering. I hope this will help, but please let me know if you have any problems using it!
* The MediaWiki script has been upgraded to the latest version - please let me know of any possible problems, I did see some minor errors during the installation. I'm also working on a skin that would "merge" the wiki with the rest of the site, making navigating back and forth easier, but completing that might take awhile.
* Oookay. First of all, my apologies that I still haven't updated the newest skin. I'll try to find time to do it soon. I did upgrade the script during the server move, and changed the license as we discussed. (Can't even remember where that happened, though.) I have some files saved for the cover galleries, I'll upload them after I've finished the skin. As I've tried to keep the articles free from references to the books, I'd prefer a timeline system, but I'm always willing to hear other opinions. Timelines might be more difficult build, I think we'd need to figure out some kind of "x years after Fitz was born" or "so-and-so's reign" system. I've started to wonder whether we should have a reference system after all. I didn't want one in the beginning, because my experience with book-ish wikis is that they are quite unneeded and make the article pages look messy. Minor characters would be easy to handle, because it would probably mean a very short note like "introduced in AA (chapter) 3, mentioned again in GF 15" but how should we handle references for characters that appear in 6 to 9 books? I feel that the time and energy would be better directed to just adding more things to the wiki in general. Of course this wouldn't be such a problem with new articles in the future as we could make those reference notes at the time of adding the article. Because I'm going to start expanding this wiki to cover other Hobb/Lindholm works as well soon, this would be a good time to decide whether we need/want references or not. --[[User:Mervi|Mervi]] 02:16, 21 January 2008 (EET)

For a long time I have planned to "open" this wiki to other Hobb stories besides the RotE ones. I figured that the best way the script allows us to do this, is to use little boxes that are really templates to mark all the articles depending on which fictional universe they belong. I have made some drafts for those and added the RotE one to the [[Fitz]] article for example - please let me know what you think. The idea is that the template can be altered at any point without having to go through hundreds of pages making the same change (of course the template has to be added to those pages first though! :D) So it doesn't matter if we've used the template already to mark articles and then want to change something in it. ** I think I actually placed them all over the place when I tested them. It shouldn't be too hard to fix though once we reach some kind of a consensus about this. I do agree that they are more easy to spot when they're on top, especially if the article is lengthy. This is something I've meant to do for a long time. If anyone feels it should be different, feel free to suggest changes! My main concern is to keep this all non-profit, and I would like to allow copying, because it makes collaborations with other sites easier. I chose "No Derivative Works" because I don't see the point of someone copying everything and then adding stuff to it elsewhere - although I don't know how likely that scenario is. What do you all think? Should the derivative works be allowed?

'''Vivacia''' is the [[liveship]] of the [[Vestrit|Vestrit family]]. She has golden colored locks of hair, a bare chest, and green eyes. She was built of the [[wizardwood]] cocoon that would have become the dragon [[Bolt]].

She was quickened after [[Ephron Vestrit]] died. [[Althea Vestrit]] was thought to take her captaincy after his father, but instead, at [[Ronica Vestrit|Ronica]]'s decision, Vivacia was inherited by her sister [[Keffria Vestrit|Keffria]], thus Keffria's husband [[Kyle Haven]] became her captain. As he is not of the Vestrit blood, he decided to take their son [[Wintrow Vestrit|Wintrow]] on board to keep Vivacia company.

Even though Vivacia was newly quickened, child-like, Kyle decided to use her as a slaver to gain larger profits to pay off the price of her to the [[Festrew]] family of [[Rain Wild Traders]]. As a liveship is able to feel the emotions of her crew and those aboard her this was not a wise decision. Not even the company of Wintrow could keep Vivacia happy, as he wasn't happy himself but wanted to go back to his monastery. This is why the pirate [[Kennit]] found it so easy to capture her ‚Äî she didn't like her captain or crew. At the moment Kennit chose to conquer her there was a slave uprising going on and no-one was tending the sails or the wheel. Under the normal circumstances wooden ships can't overtake liveships as they are able to help their crew.

Kennit, being of an [[Old Trader]] family himself, was able to make Vivacia happier than Kyle could, and though she had a close family bond with Wintrow, Kennit knew how to relate better to a liveship.

Vivacia was awoken to her dragon origins by the serpent [[She Who Remembers]], becoming something between a Vestrit and the dragon Bolt.
