Can we estimate how long the War was from the years that Fitz lives in Buckkeep? According to [http://home.primus.com.au/asr/hobb/farseer_timeline.html this] Fitz was 13 when the Forging started, do we know how old he was when they reached the stone quarry? Red Ship War

'''Red Ship War''' was a 7 year period when the [[Six Duchies]] suffered of the [[Red Ship Raids]], lead by [[Kebal Rawbread]]. Many people suffered, were [[Forged]], lost their homes and livelyhoods on the coastal areas of [[Buck]], [[Bearns]], [[Rippon]] and [[Shoaks]].

Red Ships were chased away by [[Verity-as-Dragon]] and the awoken [[stone-dragon]]s.

In the South, it was referred to as 'the Northern War' and 'the barbarion's war', and badly effected the economies of places such as Bingtown for years afterwards.

Timelines might be more difficult build, I think we'd need to figure out some kind of "x years after Fitz was born" or "so-and-so's reign" system. As an adolescent, Regal was childish, immature and pompous.

== Appearance ==

He was typically Farseer in physical appearance (with a dark hair, skin and eyes), and was considered handsome, a title so obtained by much primping, taking pains to take care of his looks. His brown hair was smoother than his brothers' and better tended, oiled, and often scented. He also dressed more finely than his brothers, as appearances were extremely important to him.

== King Regal ==

He was irresponsible as a Farseer monarch, taking an unusually hard line with criminals, [[Forged]] ones and people with the [[Wit]]. He created the [[King's Circle]], a gladiator ring that pitted any willing warrior or criminal agaisnt a [[Forged]] one.

== In the end ==

As Regal aged, his behaviour went from near acceptable childish jealously to unbecoming outright arrogance, using his new position as King to do as he wanted, however ill-advised, regardless of the effect on the Six Duchies. Towards the end of his reign, Regal developed his mother's taste for drugs and had her same irrational behaviour, showing especially when it came to his hatred of [[Fitz]], whom he stopped at nothing to kill.

In the end, Fitz used the [[Skill]] on Regal to force him into loyalty towards [[Kettricken]], though it was never found out how long this would have lasted, as Regal was killed in his bedroom some time later, most probably by a ferret.

Regal had a fear of anyone different to himself, and would not stand to have someone who was 'unwhole' in his presence. This fear extended to include such people as [[The Fool]], although he served as one of Regal's servants for a time, and people possessing the [[Wit]].

Weapons master at [[Buckkeep]] when [[Fitz]] was young, and famous for her skill not only in weilding weapons but creating them, too, and crafted both of the swords used by [[Verity]] and [[Chivalry (King-In-Waiting)|Chivalry]]. Hod came to Buckkeep with [[Constance]] when she became the Queen.

She later died whilst journeying to the [[Mountain Kingdom]] with [[Verity]].

Starling

A minstrel, sister of [[Jay]].
Also called ''Starling Birdsong'', and ''the howling bitch'' by [[Nighteyes]]. Both the wolf and [[the Fool]] suspected her motives in friending [[Fitz]] but the two still maintained over a decade long "friends with benefits" type of relationship.

A victim of the raiding that took place during the [[Red Ship Wars]], Starling was raped and became pregnant with her attackers child. Not wanting to keep the baby, she went to an apothacry to buy herbs that would cause her to miscarry. However, the herbs given to her were not succesful, and on returning to the apothatry, was told that it was best to simply carry the baby to term. Starling was unhappy with the idea, and went to another, who supplied her with a drug that managed to terminate the pregnancy as well as make her unfertile.

She witnessed Fitz' attempt at finding [[Verity]] and the awakening of his dragon and after returning to [[Buckkeep]] remained at [[Kettricken]]'s side helping in the [[Cleansing of Buck]]. Later she also tracked down [[Fitz]] and visited him various times a year, bringing him new tales and songs as well as more practical things such as inks and paper. The other side to these visits was that she kept [[Chade]] informed about Fitz. She also found [[Hap]] and brought him to live with Fitz.

Starling married [[Dewin]] sometime during the reign of Queen Kettricken while Fitz was still living in his quiet cottage: the knowledge of this made Fitz cut off their relationship despite Starlings protests.

She is first described as being a 'typical Buck woman' - dark haired, with dark eyes and being the height of Fitz' shoulder.

Dark haired, dark skinned and dark eyed, Fitz is considered typically Farseer-like in his looks, baring a striking resemblance to his father. Although he does not think himself so, Fitz is also said to be handsome, even with his numerous scars.

== Parentage and childhood ==

Fitz is the son of prince [[Chivalry (King-In-Waiting)|Chivalry]] [[Farseer]] and an unknown Mountain woman. His grandfather brought him to [[Verity]] when he was about six years old. Verity was in [[Moonseye]] at the time, so his mother probably lived nearby. As he was a bastard of the [[King-in-Waiting]], he was the reason for his father's abdication from the crown. Fitz doesn't remember his childhood before coming to the Farseers, or has decided to forget it, hence always being vague when it comes to his age. He actually has some memories, but denies remembering them and later puts them into a [[Stone-dragon]].

Fitz was given to [[Burrich]], Chivalry's right hand man, to raise.

== Early years ==

Fitz grew up in [[Buckkeep]]. He first lived in the [[Buckkeep stables]] with Burrich. His first companion and friend was a puppy, [[Nosy]], with whom he formed his first [[Wit-bond]]. With Nosy he roamed around in the [[Buckkeep town]] and was known there as [[Newboy]]. As Newboy, he came to know [[Molly]] Chandler.

When Burrich noticed their Wit-bond, Nosy was taken away from him and Fitz believed Burrich had killed him.

When he got King [[Shrewd]]'s attention, he got a room in the keep and formal training of a royal.

== Training ==

After Shrewd's recognition of him, Fitz swore an oath of loyalty to always serve the Farseer throne. Fitz started to take lessons in Buckkeep, learning around the hearths with various cousins and other royal children, and taking lessons in things such as reading and writing with [[Fedwren]]. Around this time, he also started to take secret lessons with [[Chade]] to become a Buckkeep assassin, learning to be swift, confident and quiet by various childish games and pranks, such as hiding the cooks scissors and having to memorize objects he had only seen briefly or in passing, and his loyalty to Shrewd was tested to its limits.

It was at the begining of Fitz's training that the [[Red Ship War]]'s started, and the need for more people to be trained with the [[Skill]] arose. After being tested, Fitz showed Skill ability and started his lessons with [[Galen]], the Skillmaster. Galen was said to hate Fitz as much as he loved his father, and was openly harsh with him in lessons until Burrich challanged him in front of the [[Wittness Stones]], on the agreement that if he won it was the will of the gods that Fitz had the right to learn the Skill unharmed and despite of his bastard blood.

Chade

When [[Fitz]] first encounters Chade Fallstar, he is acting as the assassin, spy and adviser to King [[Shrewd]] and soon becomes the tutor and mentor for Fitz. He is a shadowy figure who lives in the labyrith between the walls of [[Buckkeep]], only a small number of people even know he exists, and his true identity is an even bigger secret - he is actually the bastard half-brother of the king himself.

Little is know of his childhood, but he was born near [[Woolcot]] and hated his stepfather, who used to beat him.

His face was scarred in an accident when he was young, and his appearance resembles that of the [[Pocked Man]] of old stories, though these scars have lessened considerably in his later years. He has green eyes.
He keeps a pet weasel [[Slink]]. When he does venture out of his hiding, it is usually under the disguise of [[Lady Thyme]], an irritable elderly noblewoman.

During Queen [[Kettricken|Kettricken's]] reign, Chade acts openly as her advisor and is quite popular among the ladies of the court. As long suspected by Fitz, he has some of the [[lesser magics]] such as scrying in water. He also has the aptitude for the [[Skill]].

Blood plague

It appears that one is able to recover from the plague, and is possibly comparable to the black plague that was around in medeival europe. Lord Golden

Voici: homeland changed due to ambiguity

One of [[The Fool]]s' three known guises. The Fool hid as Lord Golden during the time he was browning, and also so that he could wander around [[Buckkeep]] without being regarded upon as more than another Lord rather than the late King [[Shrewd]]s jester.

Lord Golden helped the crown in the first parts of the [[Piebald Rebellion]].

Already famous for his seemingly bottomless wealth, Lord Golden became a favourite at court after an incident took place involving Lord [[Civil]], spawning rumours about his sexuality that in turn caused many to question his relationship with his manservant [[Tom Badgerlock]], including [[Starling|Starling Birdsong]] who had no idea about his true identity. The Fool removed Lord Golden by frittering away all of his wealth on friends & parties and had him having to flee from people he was indebted to.

He takes exceedingly good care of his clothes, and in the choosing of them, wearing only the best of silks and the most exotic of materials in keeping with his rather mysterious origins. He appears to be in his early twenties.

Dark haired, dark skinned and dark eyed, Fitz is considered typically Farseer-like in his looks, baring a striking resemblance to his father. Although he does not think himself so, Fitz is also said to be handsome, even with his numerous scars.

Fitz is the son of prince [[Chivalry (King-In-Waiting)|Chivalry]] [[Farseer]] and an unknown Mountain woman. His grandfather brought him to [[Verity]] when he was about six years old. Verity was in [[Moonseye]] at the time, so his mother probably lived nearby. As he was a bastard of the [[King-in-Waiting]], he was the reason for his father's abdication from the crown. Fitz doesn't remember his childhood before coming to the Farseers, or has decided to forget it, hence always being vague when it comes to his age. He actually has some memories, but denies remembering them and later puts them into a [[Stone-dragon]].

Fitz was given to [[Burrich]], Chivalry's right hand man, to raise.

== Early years ==

Fitz grew up in [[Buckkeep]]. He first lived in the [[Buckkeep stables]] with Burrich. His first companion and friend was a puppy, [[Nosy]], with whom he formed his first [[Wit-bond]]. With Nosy he roamed around in the [[Buckkeep town]] and was known there as [[Newboy]]. As Newboy, he came to know [[Molly]] Chandler.

When Burrich noticed their Wit-bond, Nosy was taken away from him and Fitz believed Burrich had killed him.

Patience was known for her strangeness even as a child, refuses to learn more womanly crafts in favour of the often more obscure subjects she wanted to know. She also had a small romance with [[Burrich]], although it did not last, Burrich thinking her too good for him and his loyalty to Chivalry that kept him from leaving his duties.

====Marriage====

The marriage of Chivalry and Patience was scorned because of the match gained nothing for the Farseer's - Patience's family was amiable with the throne and already had good trade links with them.

Later on, the marriage was dissaproved of because of the couple's inabilty to conceive a child, which at the begining of [[Assassin's Apprentice]] proved to be caused by Patience's infetility when [[Fitz]] was born. Weither out of jealousy or anger of her husbands betrayal, Patience persuaded her husband to step down from his position as King-In-Waiting and retire to [[Withywoods]]. The two lived here in relative peace and quiet, with Chivalry learning the ways of the land, until his death from what was publically called a riding accident.

====Buckkeep====

After Chivalry's death, Patience moved to [[Buckkeep]] Castle along with her maid and closest friend [[Lacey]], to over-see the up bringing of Fitz. He studied various subjects with her, from musical instruments to the knowledge of plants, through he learnt more from what she said and did in passing then the inconsistent lessons she taught.

Patience was not well recieved at court, for her outlandish behaviour and her knack for talking bluntly about subjects that would otherwise be skirted around. She made few friends amongst the ladies while King [[Shrewd]] was on the throne, for her interests were more directed towards interesting plant life and botany then dresses and courting, however this changed when [[Kettricken]] came to court and rejauvenated the [[Queen's Garden]].

She was one of the few that were left behind at Buckkeep castle when [[Regal]] moved to [[Tradeford]], but turned the situation around to her favour, and where Regal ignored the needs of the [[Six Duchies]], Patience gave all she could so that the [[Red Ship Raiders]] might be repelled, knowing that if Buckkeep fell, so would the Six Duchies.

When rumours came about that [[Verity]] was still alive, Patience was one of the few that supported and encouraged it, declaring Regal's false claim to the throne.

====Tradeford====

After the [[Red Ship War]] and Queen Kettricken ascended her throne, Patience was given Tradeford to rule over and turned it from the centre of Regal's bloody rule to a place of peace and prosperity. The most noticable change she made was the transformation of the [[King's Circle]] into a beautiful garden.

====Withywoods====

At the end of [[Fool's Fate]], Lacey passed away, leaving Patience alone. She decided then to move back to Withywood's (which she had given to [[Molly]] under the assumption that Chivalry would have wanted Burrich or his family to have it) with Fitz and his family, where she currently resides.

One of [[The Fool]]s' three known guises. The Fool hid as Lord Golden during the time he was browning, and also so that he could wander around [[Buckkeep]] without being regarded upon as more than another Lord rather than the late King [[Shrewd]]s jester.

Lord Golden helped the crown in the first parts of the [[Piebald Rebellion]].

Already famous for his seemingly bottomless wealth, Lord Golden became a favourite at court after an incident took place involving Lord [[Civil]], spawning rumours about his sexuality that in turn caused many to question his relationship with his manservant [[Tom Badgerlock]], including [[Starling|Starling Birdsong]] who had no idea about his true identity. The Fool removed Lord Golden by frittering away all of his wealth on friends & parties and had him having to flee from people he was indebted to.

He takes exceedingly good care of his clothes, and in the choosing of them, wearing only the best of silks and the most exotic of materials in keeping with his supposed [[Bingtown]] origins.

Sea serpent

Sea serpents are creatures that will eventually evolve into [[Dragons]]. One of the know places where they are born is the [[Others Island]] where they wriggle into the sea and spend time growing and shedding skin several times in the warm waters of south.

When the right time comes, they travel to the north to find their way to the [[Serpent River]], accompanied by guides like [[She Who Remembers]] who give them the collected memories of their entire race. They build cocoons from the special sand that is only found in certain places along the river, mixing it with their own secretions. There they hatch all through the winter guarded by adult Dragons and [[Elderling]]s before emerging as new Dragons during the high summer.

For the sea serpents, the world is divided in two: [[the Plenty]]¬†and [[the Lack]] - the Plenty being their familiar home, everything below the surface of the sea, and the unfamiliar Lack being everything above it. In contrast, the Dragons are the [[Lords of the Three Realms]]: Rules of Earth, Sea and Sky.

The son of [[Kettricken]] and [[Verity]], although due to the sickly condition of his body at the time of conception, Verity used the [[Skill]] to swap bodies with [[Fitz]] in order that an heir be produced for the [[Farseer]] throne following the death of their first child, [[Sacrifice (infant)|Sacrifice]]. The slightly ambiguous nature of Dutiful's parantage is not an overly large issue towards the future of the Siz Duchie's, however, as he is a Farseer whichever father is considered his 'true' one. None of this is ever revealed to Dutiful.

Dutiful lives in [[Regal|Regal's]] former [[Regal's grand chambers|grand chambers]] in [[Buckkeep]]¬†and keeps them simple and ascetic like his mother.

It is revealed that Dutiful has the [[Wit]] as well as the [[Skill]], something that caused him to be kidnapped by the [[Piebalds]]. He was bonded to a cat for a while, before she was killed by Fitz after trying to attack him.

Dutiful later married the [[Narcheska]] [[Elliania]], after going on a quest she issued (at the [[Pale Woman]]'s orders) to bring the head of [[Icefyre]], the dragon of [[Aslevjal]] to her hearth, which he acheived, although due to a certain chain of events it was still attached to his body, causing the loss of her home's door in the process.

Dutiful and Elliania have one son, [[Prosper]].

Realm of the Elderlings

''The Realm of the [[Elderling]]s'', also known as the world of [[Eda]] and [[El]], is the universe where the triple trilogies of [[Farseer trilogy|Farseer]], [[Liveship Traders trilogy|Liveship Traders]] and [[Tawny Man trilogy|Tawny Man]] as well as some short stories take place. The known area reaches from the [[Out Islands]] in the far north to beyond far south where [[the Fool]] came from, and includes the [[Six Duchies]], the [[Mountain Kingdom]], the [[Cursed Shores]], [[Chalced]] and [[Jamaillia]]. It is implied that the world is round like ours.

The Stables at [[Buckkeep]] house not only horses but also hounds and hawks.

In Fitz childhood, the stables were mastered by [[Burrich]] who lived in an upstairs room above the stalls, keeping a strict rein on the stable running.

After the [[Red Ship War]] the Buckkeep stables saw large developments, causing [[Hands]] to move the main stables to a new, larger site and the old stables from Fitz's childhood to become abandoned by the nobility, thus causing it to become derelict compared to it's former glory.

Hi, can you remember where you've read that the old Buckkeep stables became abandoned after the new ones were build? In FE when Fitz comes back, he stables Myblack in the old stables that are used by servants. The rulers of the [[Six Duchies]], a line which started with [[Taker]] who arrived from the [[Out Islands]], and continues to King-In-Waiting [[Dutiful]] and then, presumably, his son [[Prosper]].

== The Line of Inheritence ==

Inheritence of the crown is chronological; the eldest child of the reining monarch, or the nearest relation with the strongest Farseer blood will be first on the thrown, regardless of gender. At 16, the oldest heir will become King or Queen-in-Waiting, a position designed to give the potential ruler the power he or she desired while helping them learn the responsibily that goes with it before they ascend the thrown.

If a ruling Farseer dies, their other half will continue to rule over the Six Duchies, even if they contain less Farseer blood then their children.

==The Skill==

All of the Farseer line show themselves in possesion of the [[Skill]], and throughout the their history have used [[Skill-coterie]]s. The Skill is taught to all royalty, save for a brief period from King [[Bounty]] to Queen [[Kettricken]], when it was only taught to Princes, and from then on was taught to all in the Six Duchies who showed a talent for it, royal or not.

==Infidelity==

There is a large history of infidelity amongst the Farseer royals, with both the men and the women of the line having bastard children in and out of court, as seen with [[Fitz]], [[Chade]], [[Charger]] and [[Galen]].

==Names==

The Farseer line has a tradition of naming nobles after the virtues they wish them to hold, and they often do, sometimes in extremes and other times only subtly showing the characteristics they are named for. The names can be something seen as entirely positive (such as [[Verity]]), or something ambiguous in nature (as seen with [[Shrewd]]).

I'd like to hear opinions about whether we should write separate articles for Amber and Lord Golden or just add all the details about them to the main Fool article. There would of course still be pages for Amber and LG, but they would redirect here. The same dilemma is with Fitz... should Tom Badgerlock have a separate article, or just a division in the Fitz article? :: I actually ended up starting a page for [[Tom Badgerlock]] because re-reading FE for indexing the characters etc I realized that most of the other characters do not know the truth about TB, *and* for many years Fitz really tried to convince even himself that FitzChivalry was dead and he was now Tom Badgerlock. The character only starts to appear as a "ruse" when he comes back to Buckkeep and has to live among all those people who once knew Fitz. I think we should mention some of the Pale Women's comments, especially baring in mind she knew the Fool when he was a child. I'd have to get the book to confirm, but doesn't she go on about if she were with the Fitz they'd be man and women, hinting that Fitz and the Fool weren't? : I think we should try to include all the different view points from which to consider the Fool, so I'd say definitely yes. I think it would also be important to mention the paradox of two White Prophets at the same time, because that's not supposed to happen. Either one of them must be "false", but still they both exist and have at least the physical appearance of a WP. The Fool says in AQ (p. 335 UK paperback, chapter "Secrets") that his fathers were two cousins. In my copy of FE (also UK edition) he says they were brothers. I'm wondering if this is an error that might be corrected in other editions.

I'd like to ask everyone's opinions about including characters and places that are NOT from the F&F stories and Liveship books in this particular wiki.

If people want to add them here too, that's fine with me, but then we have to consider how to organize the categories so that Ki & Vandien, Kerlew, Nevare & co don't hang around with Burrich and Molly. Another option is to install another wiki for those articles. I had been planning that we should concentrate on this world first, and start the Soldier Son work only after the trilogy has been finished. The articles tend to be quite spoilerish in nature and a lot of people want to read all the books in a row. Queen Desire was the second wife of King [[Shrewd]] and mother of Prince [[Regal]]. She was in line to be the Duchess of [[Farrow]] until she married the King, due to a law in the [[Six Duchies]] that declares when one member of the nobility marries another, the one with a lesser title must give up their land, for one cannot fully steward two duchies.

Towards the end of her life, Desire started to make claims that she would have held more power as the Duchess of Farrow then as the Queen, and that her heritage contained more [[Farseer]] blood then that of [[Constance]], Shrewd's previous wife, so her son had a better claim to the throne then Chivalry simply being first-born, though this arguement never had any sway on Shrewd. These claims were often brought on by Desire's use of various drugs such as merrybug and carryme. It was said that as soon as Shrewd persuaded her of one, she took to another.

Jhaampe

Voici: Tents and Sacrifice abode

Capital city of the [[Mountain Kingdom]], although it is not so much a city as a collection of several different nomadic people. Instead of houses as found in the [[Six Duchies]], Jhaampe is made up of hundreds of tents, all of different colours, though purple and yellow is the prevalent colour, creating a look that is often described as lotus nestled amongst the mountains. The sites in which tents can be pitched is carefully marked out with stones, and the sites are always kept clean. People of the Mountain Kingdom come to Jhaampe and leave without apparent warning.

The [[Sacrifice]] housing quarters were made over several years by pruning tree's to grow in a certain way and then putting various layers of cloth and clay over the top of them to create a sort of giant pavilion.

About Fitz' feelings towards the fact that he is Dutiful's "biological" father. This is just my opinion, and I'd like to hear others before we make changes to the article or decide not to. It is my understanding that the lack of comments about this subject by Fitz doesn't mean it wasn't terribly important to him. I got the impression that he was just being a) very, very careful not to let the truth out and therefore not committing it on paper and b) feeling quite uncomfortable about what had happened and thus not thinking much about it (we've seen this defense mechanism in him before, haven't we?). He says to the Fool (in FE) that he didn't understand/realize what was going to happen when he promised Verity that he could use his body and stresses that it is very important that noone else should find out the truth. I can't give you direct quotes because my re-reading is still under way, but I think there are several times in the TM trilogy where Fitz is sad over the fact that he can never be the real father for *either* of his real children, "only" Hap. --[[User:Mervi|Mervi]] 00:32, 26 April 2006 (EEST)
: This is clumsy writing on my part. What I meant by this comment is that Dutiful's father wasn't important to the future of the Farseer's. No matter who sired Dutiful, he is still the heir to the Farseer throne and the Fool's prophesy would still be able to take place. Of course, Fitz appears to be ''more'' then wistful that he cannot be important in his son's life. It's a give away that when Fitz doesn't mention something overly much, it means it probably is an issue that he is more emotionaly attached to. Like with Nettle, he distanced himself from Dutiful. It also I think shows that he wanted to be a father during the whole 'Piebald kidnappers' debackle, and he had to see his son acting the way he did towards him. I could go on like this all night. Lord Golden

One of [[The Fool]]s' three known guises. The Fool hid as Lord Golden during the time he was browning, and also so that he could wander around [[Buckkeep]] without being regarded upon as more than another Lord rather than the late King [[Shrewd]]s jester.

Lord Golden helped the crown in the first parts of the [[Piebald Rebellion]].

Already famous for his seemingly bottomless wealth, Lord Golden became a faverite at court after an incident took place involving Lord [[Civil]], spawning rumours about his sexuality that in turn caused many to question his relationship with his manservant [[Tom Badgerlock]], including [[Starling Birdsong]] who had no idea about his true identity. The Fool removed Lord Golden by frittering away all of his wealth on friends & parties and had him having to flee from people he was indebted to.

: I have no idea, it's from a listing of characters from [http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/jtjaaske/hobb/taustaa/nthahmotes.html here]. I do believe that they are from the books, because the list includes the translations for all the names in Finnish, and the last two are Jory and Pol Steri (the last one doesn't really mean anything, but sounds similar to "bolster". I'm assuming that Jory could be a name he gives to someone asking for it (the wandering minstrels, perhaps? Someone at Tradeford?) and the Bed Bolster sounds like a nickname the Fool might have used. Or maybe that girl he turned down?
