In truth, the [[Piebalds]] were forcing his mother to keep Civil in the court, but the boys still formed a real friendship. In his times alone in his chambers at [[Buckkeep]] he indulges in [[Smoke]] and plays a small pipe badly. Civil's Wit-companion is a cat called [[Pard]]. His life also was saved by Fizt Fitz (Tom Bagderlock) after the Piebalds turned against him
