He lost his Skill when Verity used him, with Fitz's assistance, to channel to Kettricken during their Mountain wedding. Verity, angered by August's disloyalty and recognizing the threat to his person and his throne, burned the Skill out of August.
August, whose personality and intelligence were affected, then withdrew to Withywoods, living the rest of his life as a genteel idiot.
