'''Sooty ''' was a placid, well shaped grey horse mare with a hint of dapple in her coat and a blackened mane and tail as well as nose and stockings. [[Cob]] had been training her until she was given to [[Fitz]] as a part of his education provided by King [[Shrewd]]. At the time she was with foal by Lord [[Temperance]]'s stallion.
Sooty and [[Ruddy]] were the horses that took [[Kettricken]] and [[the Fool]] all the way form [[Buckkeep]] to the safety of the [[Mountain Kingdom]] when [[Regal]] crowned himself the King.Fitz met her there again..By this time she was carrying a foal by Ruddy despite her old age.
She later foaled a roan colt owned by which together with Ruddy were give to [[Burrich]] that he used to use as a studhorses. Sooty herself was too old to make the journey back home.
