'''Small Ferret''' was the [[Wit-partner|Wit-companion]] of [[Big Ferret]]. [[Black Rolf]] had been given them the task to warn aid [[Fitz]]. Big Ferret had died, but had told Small Ferret to continue on their mission, so he had been travelling among [[Will|Will's]] possessions until he met Fitz in the town of [[Blue Lake]]. He warned Fitz of the trap Will had set for him and told Fitz that his ultimate goal was to kill ''Old Blood-Hater'' - [[Regal]]. In the end, it seems that Small Ferret did just that, although Regal's bloody demise in his own bed was blamed on a large river rat. The rat was never caught and caused a lot of worry among the court, which is why some said that afterwards Lord [[Chade]] kept a pet ferret with him.
