'''Cat's Meat''' is a short story that takes place near the town of [[Cogsbay]] in the [[Buck]] Duchy. It describes the events of a few days during some unknown spring springtime in the lives of [[Rosemary (Cogsbay)|Rosemary]], her child [[Gillam]] and the cat [[Marmalade]]. Rosemary and Marmelade are the viewpoint characters. Chronologically the story precedes [[Assassin's Apprentice]] but is not prerequisite reading before starting the novels.
