In the years when [[Fitz]] was young, the west gate of [[Buckkeep]] castle had been kept secure at most times and the road that led from it had been little more than a goat-path. After the [[Red Ship War]] when the trade prospered in [[Buckkeep town]], the road had been widened and even rerouted in parts, and the gate stood open with a small manned guardhouse next to it.
