First published in 1983, it was the first published novel of [[Megan Lindholm]]. She had previously published two short stories, [[Bones for Dulath]] ([[AMAZONS! ]] 1979) and [[The Small One]] ([[Fantastic Stories Vol.27]], #11. 1980), set in the same world. Chronologically Harpy's Flight is the first story of the adventures of ''Ki'' and ''Vandien''.
