'''Assassin's Apprentice''' is the first book in the [[Farseer trilogy]], originally published in 1995. The second and third books in the trilogy are [[Royal Assassin]] and [[Assassin's Quest]] respectively. This was the [[Robin Hobb|author's]] first book published under the pseudonym ''Robin Hobb''. A note for collectorsabout first editions: The the first two volumes of the Farseer trilogy were originally not only released in hardback paperback format in the US, and all subsequent reprints were paperbacks until a limited edition hardcover set of the whole trilogy was published in December 2016 by Subterranean Press (see below). This immediately sold out. The UK first edition hardback was limited in numbers a somewhat small print run but is can still relatively easy to obtain be sometimes purchased second-hand. There Several anniversary, limited, illustrated and other special hardcover editions have also been two more recent special editions from Voyager published since in hardback (both markets which are standalone editions) as well as a 20th-anniversary hardcover slipcase edition for the whole trilogy (more detailed below).

* A 3 volume '''hardcover set''' of the Farseer trilogy by Folio Society the 3rd of September 2020. New introduction by the author, 5 full-page colour illustrations in each volume by [[David Palumbo]] and a redrawn double-page map by Neil Gower. Printed in black and red and the set comes with a slipcase. The bindings have been blocked with gold (AA), silver (RA) and pewter (AQ) foils.
** A set of 240 copies of the trilogy were made available with a bookplate signed by the author as well as the illustrator; these sold out in a matter of hours. Signed copies (author only) have also been available through the Signed Page.

It comes in three different editions. Each have 11 colour illustrations in the interior as well as some black and white decorative pieces by [[Lixin Yin]] and a new map by [[Jack Shepherd]]. Art direction is by Maurice Lutgens and all editions are signed by the author and illustrator and are letterpress printed.
** Standard Edition: 750 copies. "Buck" blue boards and a blue slipcase made of buckram bookcloth with a foil design of a buck's head. Illustrated endpapers by Lixin Yin. This is the only version with a wraparound dustjacket. Comes with a red ribbon. Pre-order price £225, published price £245.
** Deluxe Edition: 250 copies. Dark green goat leather with buck shaped cutouts featuring Fitz on the front cover and Nosy on the back. Dark green ribbon and top edge hand-sprayed tan with green flecks. Comes is a curved slipcase made of green leather and dark brown buckram with foil stamped designs. Pre-order price £575, published price – £600.
** Lettered Edition: 26 copies. Tan deer leather covers with a wraparound design by Lixin Yin of Fitz and Nosy in brown and white. All three edges are hand coloured a dark brown/green/tan. Comes with a brown ribbon and a handmade box made out of wenge wood. The box cover has a 6-layer laser cut design of the Buckkeep castle and various ornaments, and the spine has a 3-layer inset design. The interior is lined with brown suedel and there's a ribbon to allow easy access to the book. Pre-order price £2,350, published price – £2,500.
