Although the descriptions of their physical traits are never consistant, it is hinted that they are long-limbed and often have scaley growths. The [[Ambassador]] mentioned in ''The Golden Fool'' is most likely an Elderling, and looks almost how a dragon might look if it were human.
It has been speculated by [[The Fool]] that Elderlings were men and women who were privileged enough for dragons [[dragon]]s to allow them to spent spend most of their lives near them. This resulted in the two species became integrated to a degree. One Once Eldering they had extended lifespans, but with much reduced fertility, meaning that children were not born often, but when they were, they were much treasured.
The dragons dragon's opinions on their young that showed similar integration was not not so positive, outcasting such offspring with human characteristics - probably to become [[Others]].
