Others' Island

Others' Island is an island in the general area of the Cursed Shores. It is east of Ridge Island, which itself lies on the east of the outside passage of the Cursed Shores. The only somewhat safe place for anchorage on the Others' Island is in Deception Cove. From there, a path of black gravel leads through the forested interior of the island to the famed Treasure Beach.

History

The island is one of renown, luring adventurers with tales of an Oracle and a special treasure-laden beach. There is a Skill pillar under the water, off of the beach, and presumably, an Elderling city that has sunk during the cataclysm. This underwater city's treasures wash up on the beach and are picked up by travelers. They are brought to the Others that reside there, and read a fortune based on the items found. Tradition dictates that the traveler gives a gold coin and gets to ask one question of their own. The oracle is a sea serpent that the Others have captured from youth, She Who Remembers.

Kennit, Wintrow, and Etta

Kennit first arrives with Gankis in tow, an older sailor. Kennit walks the beach, grabs items, and offers them to the Other as proscribed. He gets his fortune read and is told that his one desire will come true. It is implied, and later stated by Kennit, that this desire is to be King of the Pirate Isles. He breaks tradition on this trip and brings items from the beach back with him. Kennit believes he is safe from the Others ensorcelling magic because of his charm made of wizardwood. He barely escapes the island.

Kennit returns to the island with Wintrow Vestrit in tow. Alonside Etta, Kennit prompts Wintrow to follow tradition, walk the beach, find the objects, and present them. Wintrow does not find anything and instead explores beyond the beach. He crosses a headland on the island and finds the place that She Who Remembers is kept. Single mindedly, he frees her. Wintrow ends up touching her extensively and creates an open bond between the two of their minds. It lets him communicate with her, but the mucus that covers the serpent is also caustic and is killing him. Kennit and Etta hear screams and find Wintrow dying. The Others try to fight through the two pirates to get to the sea serpent and force her to stay on the island as their oracle. Kennit and Etta fight through to Wintrow, save him and then flee to a rowboat. She Who Remembers kills the Others and then pushes them to safety and Vivacia's waiting arms.

This event is known as Kennit's first miracle. He screamed into the storm that he would not die and the sea serpent saved them.

FitzChivalry and Dutiful

As Tom Badgerlock, Fitz travels through a Skill pillar with Dutiful, and they end up on Other Island. They are chased by Others and dive for safety through the pillar once again.
